India’s Personal Data Protection Bill, 2019 (the Bill) was introduced in Parliament in December 2019, and is currently under consideration by a Joint Parliamentary Committee of MPs. There have been many changes in the latest draft of the Bill. We are keen to understand how the Bill can be improved to enhance data protection and privacy of Indian users, in the final stages of the Parliamentary process. How can we create a more effective and consumer-friendly data protection framework suitable to India’s unique context?
We present our “mark-up” of the Bill to you on this site to build a constructive conversation together as a community. The mark-up supports our vision for better consumer protection under this Bill, set out in detail in our response to the JPC.
